Meet the Founder
I’m Mel Engstrom, a writer, tutor, copywriter and AI enthusiast with a deep passion for helping people communicate effectively.
My journey with writing started in college, where I worked as a writing tutor, guiding students—including non-native English speakers and those with learning disabilities—to find their voice through the written word.
I didn’t just help the typical procrastinating American college student, I also helped people who were just learning English after arriving in the country just months earlier. I remember one of the people I tutored telling me that learning a new language was like being a helpless newborn again. And in a new country. Imagine. The struggle is real. So, I was happy to help.
I also helped people with intellectual and learning disabilities. This taught me something valuable: if you want to be a good teacher you have to adapt your instruction to the person who’s listening to you. I became like a chameleon adapting to the specific needs of my guest.
I’ve seen all shades of writing from copywriting to poetry to essays about sex that have to somehow sound academic.
I’ve explored the worlds of copywriting, storytelling (screenwriting at a local college), and AI-assisted writing, blending creativity with cutting-edge technology.
When I realized that AI was reshaping the writing landscape, I made a choice: embrace the future and help others do the same. AI Writing 101 was born from my mission to bridge the gap between traditional writing skills and modern AI tools. I understand the hesitation, the skepticism, and the fear of losing creativity to machines. That’s why everything I create—whether it’s a guide, a course, or a coaching session—is designed to enhance your unique voice, not replace it.
