Overcome Writer’s Block Using ChatGPT

Reading Time: 4 minutes

I know that writer’s block frustrates you, because it frustrates us all, even the most accomplished among us. And there’s no way to make sure you’ll never feel it again, but you can work yourself out of it when it arrives.

Writing is so frustrating for this very reason. But sometimes all you need is to get the ball rolling, a shiny STARTER idea that you can then mold and tweak until it becomes a project you’re proud of.

And that’s what I have to offer you today: momentum. And how are you going to achieve that? Well, AI of course.

Below are some prompts you can plug into ChatGPT (one of the TOP AI chatbots) to get out an initial content or story idea and overcome writer’s block. Once you have the initial idea (or first draft of your project, courtesy of ChatGPT) you begin to see all the materials laid out from which to fashion your work.

In this blog post, I’ll share with you some of the different prompts that you can use in ChatGPT to overcome writer’s block. You can use these prompts as inspiration, guidance, or content for your writing projects. You can also modify these prompts to suit your preferences and goals.

Some of the prompts that you can use in ChatGPT to overcome writer’s block today:

  • Write a story based on a random image. You can show ChatGPT an image from your device or ask ChatGPT to “create a new image based on your image”. Then, you can ask ChatGPT to “write a story based on the image.” You can also specify the genre, setting, characters, plot, or theme of the story. For example, you can show ChatGPT an image of a forest and ask ChatGPT to “write a fantasy story about a magical creature that lives there.”
  • Write a poem based on a random word. You can ask ChatGPT to “give me a random word” or choose a word yourself. Then, you can ask ChatGPT to “write a poem based on the word.” You can also specify the type, form, structure, or rhyme scheme of the poem. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to give you a word that starts with “S” and write a “sonnet” about it.
  • Write a blog post based on a random topic. You can ask ChatGPT to give you a random topic or choose a topic yourself. Then, you can ask ChatGPT to write a blog post based on the topic. You can also specify the tone, audience, purpose, or length of the blog post. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to give you a topic related to health and wellness and write a blog post that educates and motivates your readers.
  • Write a dialogue based on a random scenario. You can ask ChatGPT to give you a random scenario or choose a scenario yourself. Then, you can ask ChatGPT to write a dialogue based on the scenario. You can also specify the characters, setting, conflict, or mood of the dialogue. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to give you a scenario where two strangers meet on a train and write a dialogue that reveals their personalities and backgrounds.
  • Write a tweet based on a random hashtag. You can ask ChatGPT to give you a random hashtag or choose a hashtag yourself. Then, you can ask ChatGPT to write a tweet based on the hashtag. You can also specify the tone, style, or message of the tweet. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to give you a hashtag related to politics and write a tweet that expresses your opinion or humor.

These are just some of the different prompts that you can use in ChatGPT to improve writer’s block. You can experiment with different prompts and see what ChatGPT can come up with.

One thing I really love about this is that if I find an idea I can really run away with I can also expand it to suit my length requirements. A silly little 100 word content idea can become a 50,000 word ebook. I’ve got a blog post on using ChatGPT to expand content if you’d like to harness that magic for yourself.

In the meantime do tell me what you think of the results of using this stuff. My father wrote a steampunk story about a girl with my name in the style of Jane Austin. It was super weird, y’all. But oftentimes Weird is good to shake up the creative cobwebs. Enjoy!
